Head of Autonomous AI at Synteny

About

Andrei is Synteny’s Head of Autonomous AI, where he is currently leading the development of an exploration-first, agentic system for drug discovery. He completed a PhD in Machine Learning at the University Politehnica of Bucharest, focusing on exploration in reinforcement learning. During his academic research, he also gained experience at McGill University and Mila – Quebec AI Institute, working alongside leading academics in the field. Over the past decade, Andrei has worked across academia and industry in reinforcement learning, generative modelling, and large language models, with applications spanning autonomous driving, real-time video analytics, and drug discovery. Before joining Synteny, he was a Principal Applied Scientist at UiPath, where he developed large multimodal agentic systems for computer use, and previously contributed to protein design models at DreamFold. At Synteny, he is rethinking scientific discovery by building agentic AI systems that prioritize exploration, learning, and closed-loop decision-making to accelerate drug discovery.
